Establishment of the Intergroup
25 apr 2025
We are pleased to announce the launch of the “Attracting Investment to Ensure a Competitive and Sustainable European Union” Intergroup. This new Intergroup will foster dialogue on the many dimensions of investment and support the EU’s competitiveness agenda throughout the 2024– 2029 legislative term.
The Bureau of the Intergroup, elected last 18th February, is composed of six Co-chairs from three political groups (EPP, S&D, and Renew): Dirk Gotink (EPP), Isabel Benjumea (EPP), Thomas Pellerin-Carlin (S&D), Annalisa Corrado (S&D), Stine Bosse (Renew) and Pascal Canfin (Renew).
The Intergroup serves first and foremost as a forum for dialogue on attracting investment to build a sustainable and competitive Europe—laying the foundation for a horizontal approach that is essential to shaping effective EU policies. More than 50 MEPs are already engaged in this new initiative, and a call for external partners is now open to formalise the dozens of expressions of interest received so far and to broaden participation even further.
As highlighted in the Draghi report, Europe stands at a crossroads—facing both significant challenges and extraordinary opportunities. To maintain its global leadership, the EU must support European companies and reinforce growth potential through facilitating greater investment. In particular, there are major unmet financing needs in areas such as innovation, infrastructure, and the transition to a sustainable economy and industry. At the same time, growing global competition is pushing the EU to adapt, and adopt a forward-looking policy framework that responds to today’s geopolitical and economic realities.
The Intergroup has an important role to play in advancing both public and private investment. The time to act is now—and Europe’s financial and industrial communities are ready to rise to the challenge.
The Secretariat composed of the Group Caisse des Dépôts (on behalf of the Association of European Long-Term Investors, ELTI) and Invest Europe, will work closely with the Members’ and partners’ committees to develop a strong program of thematic public events, to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
